Golf Closes Fall Seventh at The Preview

NASHPORT, Ohio - Senior Kaylee recorded the second best finish of her career as the Western Michigan golf team climbed two spots to finish in seventh at The Preview Tuesday afternoon.

Imel answered her first round score of 79 with a 2-over par 74 during the closing 18 holes, which tied three others for the third lowest individual round of the day, to finish in a three-way tie for fifth with Northern Illinois' Allie Parthie and first round leader Hanna of Akron.

Melissa Beurmann made the biggest improvement from day one to two, carding a 4-over par 76 to finished tied for 20th.  It was a seven stroke improvement from Monday's round.  Heather Marks carded a 6-over par 78 to finish tied for 25th.

WMU bettered its team score by 16 strokes (326-310=636) to finish alone in seventh, just two strokes out of the top five.  Ball State captured the team title, making the Cardinals the third different team champion in the three years of the event.

BSU outlasted Bowling Green by three strokes, finishing with a team score of 621.  The Falcons (624) were followed by Eastern Michigan (625), Toledo (627) and Akron (634).

Ball State's Meghan Perry beat out EMU's Meredith Fairbairn by one stroke for medalist, carding a 1-over par 73 after shooting 77 on day one.
