Tough Road Challenge Awaits WMU at Kent State
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - A tough road overtime loss to Ball State is the least of problems for WMU football as the team yet again travels, this time to MAC East co-leader Kent State.
WMU lost aclose game last Saturday against Ball State, as regulation time wasn't enough to settle the score between the Broncos and the Cardinals. A late game-tying 52-yard field goal by Andrew Haldeman sent the game into overtime, but from there the WMU offense stalled and Haldeman missed a 36-yard field goal that would of put the Broncos ahead. Ball State ran five plays and scored the game-winning touchdown.
"It was a roller coaster game," said head coach Bill Cubit. "We all got excited, then didn't execute."
With the loss the Broncos dropped to an overall record of 3-4 and 1-2 in the MAC.
"We're in control of where we want to go," said offensive lineman John Deyo. " We are focused on what we need to do and just have to attack each game by itself."
The Broncos face the Kent State Golden Flashes, a team coming off a victory against Army last week, 31-17. The Golden Flashes racked up a 283 rushing yards against Army and have rushed for 250 or more yards in back to back weeks. A rushing attack that WMU will attempt to stop Saturday in order for the win.
"We surely have our work cut out for us," said Cubit. "They play well and have great wide-outs."
Kent State (5-1, 3-0 MAC) in its three MAC games have given up defensively just over 21 points per game and have caused seven turnovers on the opposing offense.
"They're very good defensively and they fly around the ball," said Cubit.
The Broncos have their work cut out for them as they face Kent State this Saturday. Game begins at 3:30 p.m.
