Garrett Haar Named Gladiator Defenseman of the Week

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- Western Michigan hockey’s Garrett Haar was named the CCHA Gladiator Defenseman of the Week for his performance against St. Lawrence over the weekend.

Haar, a sophomore, netted two key goals and finished +1 on the weekend. In Friday’s 4-3 loss to the Saints he netted the game-tying goal to force overtime with just 31 seconds remaining in regulation. On Saturday he netted the game-winning goal with just under six minutes remaining in the third period.

It took Haar just one weekend to surpass his goal total from last season. The CCHA All-Rookie team selection tallied just once last season on the road at Alaska. Haar was a part of a defensive unit that tallied three goals and six assists against St. Lawrence. The Bronco blue-liners contributed to half of the team’s goals and half of their assists in the first two games.

This is the first Defenseman of the Week Award for the former member of the Fargo Force.

Haar and the rest of the Broncos are back in action when they host Canisius on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.
