WMU Golf Records Top 10 Finish at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Western Michigan golf team finished alone in 10th at the 2012 Nittany Lion Women's Invitational led by Kaylee Imel's tie for 24th.

Imel carded a 54-hole score (226) two shots off her career low (224) en route to finishing as the low Bronco at this year's event.  She carded rounds of 77-75-74.

Chloe Lawrie, competing in only her second collegiate event, following an opening-round 78 with an even-par 72 en route to finish tied for 38th with a three-round score of 230.

Four of the six Broncos finished with scores in the 70's on Sunday with Laura Moutrey tying her career low round set a week ago (75), Kelsey Carney (79) and Melissa Beurmann (77).  Moutrey also shot 75 in Saturday's second round.

Western Michigan's low round of the tournament came on Saturday (298), one of 17 team rounds under 300 during this year's Nittany Lion Women's Invitational.

The round of the event was turned in by tournament host No. 37 Penn State, shooting 283 en route to the team title at 862.  The Nittany Lions bested No. 44 Harvard by 24 shots as Old Dominion, the College of Charleston and Minnesota rounded out the top five.

PSU's Ellen Ceresko ran away from the field with her play all weekend, finishing as medalist at 8-under par (69-69-70=208).  Princeton's Kelly Shon, ranked 86th in the nation according to GolfStat.com, finished tied for second at 215 (-1) with Penn State's Christina Vosters, ranked 45th.

WMU closes out the fall season at The Preview (Oct. 15-16) hosted by Ohio at the Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio, site of the 2013 Mid-American Conference Championships.
