With now just seven days remaining before the official start of the Division I collegiate hockey season, we look to our seventh reason for fans to be excited for the upcoming hockey season.

The focus on today's countdown is the celebration of the past and the present during the opening weekend of the regular season.

WMU hosts St. Lawrence on Oct. 12 and 13 to open the 2012-13 regular season. During both games Western Michigan will honor champions of the past and the present. On Friday Oct. 12 before the 7:05 p.m. puck drop WMU will raise the 2011-12 CCHA Tournament Championship banner along with the 2012 NCAA Tournament participant banner.

The following night the Broncos will be hosting a reunion for the 1985-86 CCHA Tournament Championship team and recognizing their accomplishments during the game. That team still holds the program record for wins in a season when they finished 32-12-0 on the season. It was also WMU's first CCHA Tournament Championship and first berth in the NCAA Tournament.

The Broncos host Western Ontario on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
