Sujashvili, Remynse Sharp on First Day at DePaul Invite

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Nini Sujashvili and Maggie Remynse were each victorious on Friday as the Western Michigan women's tennis team wrapped its first day of competition at the DePaul Invitational. The Broncos will resume play in the morning on Saturday, September 29.

Sujashvili picked up a pair of wins, teaming with Remynse for a doubles victory and earning a singles victory to give her a 2-1 record on Friday. Sujashvili advanced to the quarterfinals of the Flight B Singles Main Draw, defeating Chicago State's Ruta Grinvalde 6-0, 6-4 in her opening round match. Sujashvili will meet take on Illinois-Chicago's Jana Knoppe on Saturday.

Sujashvili partnered with Remynse to pick up her second win of the day, as the doubles pairing earned a convincing victory against Valparaiso in the Flight A Doubles Back Draw. Remynse and Sujashvili controlled the pace of action against the Crusaders, picking up an 8-3 win over Megan Barthels and Kaitlyn Hamel. The duo will play in the quarterfinals of the back draw tomorrow.

Remynse also competed in singles play on Friday, taking on UIC's Natalia Kuvakina in the Flight A Singles Main Draw. Remynse took the first set against Kuvakina 7-5, but Kuvakina responded with a 6-4 win in the second set. However, the final set of the match has been postponed until Saturday morning.
