CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced today that Lena Oliver of the Western Michigan volleyball team was named the MAC West Co-Defensive Player of the Week for September 17, in recognition of her performance at the Wildcat Classic hosted by Northwestern. It is the third time in the first four weeks of the season that Oliver has received the award, more than any other player in the MAC this year.

Oliver helped the Broncos to a 2-1 record at the Wildcat Classic over the weekend, including a pair of 3-0 sweeps over Saint Louis and Delaware. Oliver led the Broncos with 57 digs and a 5.70 digs/set average over the weekend, including match-highs of 17 and 23 against the Billikens and Blue Hens, respectively.  Oliver had 17 digs against Saint Louis and the Broncos out-dug the Billikens 63-53 and held their opponents to a miniscule .083 hitting percentage.  Against the Blue Hens, Oliver's 23 digs were part of a defensive effort that saw the Broncos hold Delaware to .196 hitting and post a 60-46 advantage in digs.

The Broncos will commence MAC play this week with matches against in-state rivals Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan, matches which are scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings, respectively.
