Alumni & Friends Gather at Annual Baseball Golf Outing
KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Bronco baseball alumni and friends of the program gathered for the annual golf outing Saturday, Sept. 8 at Thornapple Creek Golf Club in Kalamazoo.
Following the outing, many joined in for a tailgate at the baseball field as part of CommUniverCity night prior to the WMU football team's 52-21 home-opening win over Eastern Illinois.
The team of Steve Grinnell, Tyler Grinnell, Bill Oliver and Bill Huyser had the winning golf foursome, while Paul Schneider, Jeff Kaiser, Bill Kaiser and Brian Gniewek were runners-up.Winning the Closest to the Pin contest on hole No. 17 was Jeff Slaby, while Brian Gniewek had the Longest Drive on hole No. 9.
"We had a great turnout and spectacular weather," said WMU head coach Billy Gernon. "It was nice to see Coach Decker and Suds Sumney at our event as well. Western Michigan baseball has tremendous tradition and it was nice to see our guys spend time together and be able to reminisce about their playing days and remarkable accomplishments.
"I thought having the tailgate after the golf outing and seeing many of our alumni make their way into Waldo Stadium for CommUniverCity made the day even more enjoyable. Once again, a special thank you goes out to all of those that participated and to the the sponsors that helped make the event so special."
