Behind the Numbers: #51-60, #52 Paul Lambert
KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The end of the fifth edition of the Behind the Numbers series showed defensive dominance for the numbers 51-60. Here's a look back of the best player winners:
#51-Paul Tithof (2002-06)
#52-Paul Lambert (1997-2000)
#53-Peter Tuffo (1992-94)
#54-Andre Vaughn (1992-95)
#55-Joe Lewandowski (1995-97)
#56-Garrett Soldano (1996-2000)
#57-Matt Murphy (1976-79)
#58-Dave Cutlip (1988-1992)
#59-Jack Gitler (2001-04)
#60-Scott Thomas (1986-1990)
Through many great players to wear each number for 51-60, those 10 players were the best. Out of those 10 players to be deemed best, the decision to pick one as the best overall, was a choice not made easily.
Paul Lambert (1997-2000) always handled the ball and was the quarterback of the offensive line being a center. Lambert had a 31-15 record and led a line that posted 19,239 yards, 6,506 of which were rushing. Every season he played he was apart of a 1,00-yard rusher (Robert Sanford (1997,99,2000) and Darnell Fields in 1998. Lambert was apart of an offensive line during his career that gave up 100 sacks. He was First Team All-MAC in 2000, while helping the Broncos to the MAC Championship game.
Throughout the week Bronco fans have been voting on facebook.com/broncofan and wmubroncos.com for who they think should be the best player for numbers 51-60. With 70 percent of the vote, #53 Peter Tuffo was the fan's choice. #55 Joe Lewandowski came in second with 27 percent.
Peter Tuffo (1992-1994) had 259 tackles and eight sacks while wearing the Brown & Gold. Tuffo, while being an exceptional defensive player, was named First Team All-MAc in 1993 and 1994.
