WMU's Haar Named to USA Junior Evaluation Camp Roster
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Western Michigan defenseman Garrett Haar has been named to the 2012 USA Hockey Junior National Evaluation Camp roster.
The soon-to-be sophomore will compete as a part of the 46 player camp from Aug. 4-11 in at Lake Placid's Olympic center. Haar will compete in practices, intrasquad scrimmages and international games against Sweden and Finland to try to earn a spot on the USA World Junior Championship team and compete at the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia.
"I am completely honored and was shocked when I heard the news," said Haar. "I'm looking forward to competing against some of the best players in the United States and I it is such a big privilege to be invited."
The Huntington Beach, Calif., native appeared in 36 games on the season with one goal and seven assists. He was named to the CCHA All-Rookie team and helped lead the Broncos to the program's second ever CCHA Tournament Championship. Haar follows in the footsteps of teammate Chase Balisy, who was invited to the camp last year.
