Hufnagel Heads to USA Junior Championships

KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan track and field freshman Lindsey Hufnagel heads to the 2012 USA Junior Championships hosted by Indiana University.

Hufnagel will compete in the heptathlon after she qualified with her season-best score of 4,975 at the Drake Relays. The score broke the long-held school record by Phyllis Brooks, who set it in 1996 with a score of 4,944.

The Fowler, Mich., native competes in four of the seven events on Saturday. Hufnagel will compete in the 100 meter hurdles at 3 p.m. followed by the high jump at 4 p.m. Later in the evening she competes in the shot put at 6 and the 200 meter dash at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday she concludes the seven-event trek with the long jump at 1 p.m., javelin at 2:15 and the 800 meter run at 4:15 p.m.

Hufnagel scored in the heptathlon at the 2012 Oudoor Mid-American Conference Championships, also scoring in the javelin when competing as an individual.
