KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan gymnastics placed four members on the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team, and had seven others recognized as honorable mentions.

WMU's 11 nods were the most in the conference, and only Central Michigan matched Western Michigan with four Academic All-MAC selections.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. The team is voted on by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions. First-year and transfer students are not eligible.

Representing Western Michigan on the Academic All-MAC team were seniors Cepeda Carter, Stacy Kramer and Taylor Zondervan, as well as sophomore Lauren Bledsoe.

Juniors Hannah Brooks, Caroline O'Brien, Brynn Wienckowski, Lindsey Wienckowski, Sarah Wright and sophomores Kristen Seidowski and Kelsey Turnquist were named honorable mention.

Carrying a 3.29 GPA in biomedical sciences, Carter was a Second Team All-MAC selection after placing third in the all-around at the MAC Championships, also registering two other top-10 event finishes on balance beam and uneven bars. She set or tied career highs in every event and competed as an all-arounder at the NCAA regionals.

Kramer graduated with a 4.0 GPA in biology and has been accepted to the highly competitive College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee (approximately only 85 applicants are accepted each year). She competed in every meet on balance beam and floor exercise, setting career highs in both and scored a 9.725 on floor at the MAC Championships.

Zondervan also maintained a 4.0, majoring in exercise science. She was named MAC Gymnast of the Week on Feb. 23 and to the CollegeSports360.com Weekly Honor Roll, Jan. 17. She qualified as an all-arounder at the NCAA regionals and reached the podium at the MAC Championships, tying for third in the floor exercise with a career-best 9.875. She added another top-10 finish, tying for eighth on the uneven bars. Zondervan led WMU with 11 individual titles and 11 runner-up finishes during the season.

Bledsoe carried a 3.76 GPA in biomedical sciences. She was named MAC Gymnast of the Week on Feb. 27 and competed on vault at the NCAA regionals. Bledsoe won nine individual titles during the season, including seven of 12 regular season meets on vault. Both she and Zondervan had a 9.900 on vault, helping WMU break the program's team vault record. Bledsoe also scored a 9.900 on floor that same meet and had a top-10 finish on floor at the MAC Championships.

It is the second-straight season Western Michigan has fielded four Academic All-MAC members. The program had not produced more than two Academic All-MAC selections in any years prior.
