OXFORD, Mich. - The Western Michigan women's tennis team found itself embroiled in a tightly contested Mid-American Conference match, but Miami was able to hold off the surging Broncos as WMU fell 5-2 in Oxford. With the loss, the Broncos fall to 13-10 on the season, 2-3 in MAC play.

The Broncos and RedHawks were engaged in an exciting, tight doubles session as all three matches wrapped with close scores. The Broncos' pairing of April Kerr and Nini Sujashvili won the No. 2 doubles match against Rieki Honiball and Nimisha Mohan 8-5 to take the early lead, but Miami tied the score a one win apiece with a win in the No. 3 doubles match.

Maria Nivia and Jill Pastunink played an excellent match against the RedHawks' top unit of Stephanie Danesis and Christine Guerazzi, but the Miami duo clinched a tight win over the Broncos' by a 9-7 score.

After Miami took the first singles match to take a 2-0 lead, Pastunink slashed the RedHawks' lead to 2-1 with a convincing 6-2, 6-1 win over Alix Thurman. Kathleen Hawkins would again take a bite into Miami's lead with another easy singles win, beating Christiana Raymond 6-2, 6-2. Hawkins now leads the Broncos with a 5-1 record in singles matches in MAC play.  Miami, though, would take the final two matches on the court to seal the win.
