Carder Named Finalist for FRS QB Performance of the Year

CHICAGO - The fans have spoken and for the second time this season a member of the WMU football team as become a finalist for the FRS Performance of the Year.

Alex Carder was named a finalist for the FRS Quarterback Performance of the Year with his performance passing for a program record 548 yards, and MAC record seven touchdowns, running for another touchdown against Toledo.

Joining Carder in the finals are Michigan's Fitzerald Toussaint for the Running Back Performance of the Year, Miami-Ohio's Nick Harwell for the Receiver Performance of the Year and Boston College's Luke Kuechly for the Defensive Performance of the Year.

All-Star Performances of the Year is a four-month competition that lets fans determine which individual performances reign supreme during the 2011 college football season. Each top weekly vote-getter proceeds to the Finals, which run Jan. 16-22, and the winners will be revealed during the All-Star Football Challenge special airing at 7 p.m. ET Feb. 3 on ESPN2.

Carder, Toussaint, Harwell, and Kuechly will compete against 16 other finalists, which will be announced weekly from now until the culmination of bowl season. Fans can vote as often as they would like in each category and can share their vote with Facebook friends. Week nine voting opened today and ends Sunday, Nov. 27, at 9:59 a.m. ET.

In addition to recognizing the season's top performances, the All-Star Football Challenge will feature college football's biggest stars in a live skills challenge. In the 13 year history of the event, 41 first-round NFL draft picks have participated in the All-Star Football Challenge. Past participants include Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Santana Moss, Vince Young, Vernon Davis, Donovan McNabb, Edgerrin James, and many others.

Carder joins Jordan White as n FRS Performance of the Year finalist as White earned the honor after his performance against Ball State.
