Brown Wins Game Three 10-5 to Clinch Brown & Gold Series

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Brown struck for three runs in the first inning and never looked back, clinching the annual Brown & Gold series with a 10-5 win in decisive Game 3. Senior left-hander Casey Webber (Tinley Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) started for the Brown and tossed three scoreless innings, striking out three and walking none.

Sophomore Vinnie Booker (Clarkston/Lake Orion) was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored while freshman Caleb Caton (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) was 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI. Five Brown players recorded multiple hits.

Gold managed only five hits on the day and sophomore Dan Shutes (Three Rivers/Three Rivers) had the team's only extra base hit. Shutes also recorded an RBI and was solid defensively at shortstop.

The Brown & Gold series is an annual intrasquad matchup at the end of the fall season. Western Michigan opens its competitive 2012 spring season with a three-game series at Arizona State, Feb. 17-19.
