Tomerlin Named MAC Cross Country Runner of the Week

CLEVELAND -- After leading the Broncos to a first place finish among Division I schools at the Michigan Intercollegiates, Western Michigan cross country runner Samantha Tomerlin was named Mid-American Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week late Tuesday afternoon.

Tomerlin finished seventh overall and was the top Division I finisher with a season-best time of 18:27 in the 5k. The junior from Allegan, Mich., has finished at the top in the last three races for Western Michigan.

Tomerlin was the top runner for Western Michigan during her freshman year but struggled with injuries during her sophomore year. At the start of the season WMU had freshmen as its top finishers for its first two races, but since then it has been all Tomerlin.

Western Michigan heads to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Pre-Nationals 6k on Saturday.
