KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan cross country team heads to West Lafayette, Ind., for the NCAA Midwest Regional Cross Country Championships on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Varsity Cross Country Course at Purdue University.

If the Broncos place high enough they will advance to the NCAA Championships on Monday, Nov. 24.

"We are looking to improve from what we did at the Mid-American Conference Championships," said head coach Kelly Lycan. "We want to finish on a strong point and get some momentum going into the indoor season."

Jennifer Roberts looks to continue her success, fresh off being named All-MAC at the MAC Championships. The senior finished in 14th place overall and was the top finisher for the Broncos.

"Jennifer is running as well as she's ever run," added Lycan. "She gets to mix it up in the toughest region against some national caliber opponents."

Getting her first experience at the NCAA Regionals will be freshman Brittni Hutton. Hutton was consistently among the top five finishers for the Broncos all season long and turned in the second-best performance at the MAC Championships for Western Michigan.

Making what could be her final appearance as a Bronco is track and field All-American Becky Horn.

"She is just in her infancy of her cross country career so it is very bitter sweet," added Lycan. "She has definitely had one of the greatest middle distance careers in WMU and MAC history."

Horn made great strides during the season and was the fifth finisher for the Broncos at the MAC Championships. Another tough competitor, Jenna Matthews fought hard through out the season and made solid improvement and will get another chance to improve her times before the start of the indoor track and field season.
