Cheer Team
Former WMU cheerleader Kylee Crawford featured on SI.com
The Western Michigan University cheer team performs at every home, and some away, Bronco football, and men's basketball and women's basketball games. A squad performs at alternating volleyball matches. The team is charged with energizing the Bronco fan base, moving people to support the Broncos at maximum horsepower.
Members of the cheer team are selected at open tryouts each year. Members of the cheer team are considered varsity athletes. They are held to the same codes as members of varsity Bronco athletics programs. Cheer team members are awarded varsity letter jackets after the successful completion of their first full season.
The cheer team makes numerous appearances at community events each year. An appearance fee is charged for community requests. This fee helps with equipment purchases and travel. These public appearances are very important, as the team helps spread goodwill toward Bronco athletics. Being a Bronco cheerleader obviously means a lot of responsibility. Only the best need apply.
