KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) announced its annual All-America Scholar Team on July 1 and for the second-straight season Western Michigan finds three of its own among the list of honorees.
Leah Grawburg,
Stephanie Koske and
Elise Swartout were named to the Division I All-America Scholar Team.
“Academic success is very important to me, and to this program. I know it's not easy being a full-time student and a full-time athlete at this level, however, these three golfers in particular have demonstrated that you can excel at both. I am proud of their accomplishments thus far, and have only the highest expectations for them - and the rest of the team - in the coming year,” commented WMU head golf coach
Cindy Trout.
Koske (3.70 GPA, marketing major) and Swartout (3.51 GPA, management major) join former teammates Erin Thorne (2005-07) and Jenna Walter (2005-06) in earning a spot on the team in back-to-back seasons. Thorne is the only Bronco to earn a spot on the team in three-straight years, a feat both Koske and Swartout have the opportunity to match in 2009-10.
Grawburg (3.88 GPA, secondary education major) finds her name on the list for the first time in their respective careers. Grawburg does claim the distinction as the only Bronco to earn a place on the NGCA All-America Scholar Team as a freshman.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% (Division I) or 66% (Division II & III) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
