SOUTH BEND, Ind.- Chris Lewis drove in two of Western Michigan's three runs as the Broncos fell, 5-3, to Notre Dame Monday.
Lewis drove in the the Broncos' first run in the fourth, scoring Pedro Dager with a sacrifice fly after Dager had tripled.
Ryan McMillin, Brad Wehrmeyer and Kyle Galbraith hit three consecutive singles in the eighth, with Galbraith recording an RBI. Lewis then drove in the second run of the inning, reaching base on a groundout error to second.
Notre Dame first got on the board in the third, with a two-run home run by A.J. Pollock. WMU brought the score within 2-1 in the fourth, but the Fighting Irish posted three runs in the sixth. Evan Sharpley hit a two-run blast to right field and Brayden Ashdown drove in a run with one of his two hits on the evening.
In the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded, Pollock hit another ball deep to left field for what would have been his second home run of the season. Dager climbed the wall, reached into the trees and pulled back the ball for an absolutely incredible catch, robbing ND of the grand slam.
Casey Webber (0-4) took the loss on the mound for Western Michigan, tossing three innings and allowing two runs on three hits. John Navage threw four innings and gave up three runs on five hits. Billy Morrison hurled a hitless ninth.
Missing out on the Mid-American Conference Tournament this season, the Broncos will wrap-up 2009 with a three-game series against Northern Illinois at Robert J. Bobb Stadium. Game one is Thursday at 3 p.m., followed by 1 p.m. contests Friday and Saturday.
