KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan managed just six hits and committed four errors in the field, falling to Miami Friday, 9-1. The rest of the three-game series will be played tomorrow, as the two teams have decided to play a doubleheader Saturday and forgo a game on Sunday.

Western Michigan (6-18, 2-5 MAC) put a run on the board in the bottom of the first and would be held scoreless the rest of the way. No Bronco had more than one hit on the day and Jamie Simpson had the only extra-base hit, a leadoff double in the bottom of the ninth.

Miami (13-12, 4-3 MAC) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. WMU's Billy Morrison plunked Jordan Petraitus with a pitch then Tommy Nurre sent an offering out over the wall in left field.

WMU came back with a run in the bottom of the inning, but missed out on more, leaving the bases loaded. Simpson recorded an RBI with a bases loaded walk with two outs.

Miami broke the game open in the fourth, scoring four runs, two of which were unearned. Morrison was forced to leave the game with two outs in the fourth after taking a shot back to the mound off his foot. Troy Forton came on in relief and threw the next four innings.

The RedHawks scored again in the fifth after a leadoff walk, a sacrifice bunt and an RBI single, and used a walk, an error and a hit to plate another run in the sixth.

Petraitus finished out the scoring in the eighth, hitting a leadoff home run to right field.

Morrison (2-5) took the loss, going 3.2 innings and allowing four runs on five hits. He struck out four, walked one and struck two batsmen.

Miami's Matt Erwood gave an eight-inning effort, striking out six and earning his fourth win in six tries.
