KALAMAZOO -- The College Sports Information Directors of America announced today that Western Michigan junior David Kool has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District IV Men's Basketball First Team. Kool is now eligible for the Academic All-America Team.
Kool becomes the sixth Bronco named to the first team, joining Jasper McElroy (1982), Ned Hellman (1988), Tony Warner (1989), Sean Wightman (1991, '93) and Joe Reitz (2006-08). With Kool's recognition, this is the fourth season in a row that Western Michigan has had a player on the team after Reitz was recognized each of the last three seasons.
Kool has a 3.38 grade point average and is majoring in physical education, in addition to averaging 16.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals per game for the Broncos (7-14, 4-4 MAC).
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a
starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade
point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
Nominated athletes must have participated in
at least 50 percent of the team's games and no student-athlete is eligible until he/she
has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and
has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
