KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team has sent eight student-athletes to NHL developmental camps this summer.
Wade Allison, Neal Goff, Matheson Iacopelli, Mike McKee, Griffen Molino, Mike McKee, Aidan Muir, Frederik Tiffels and Corey Schueneman all set off this summer.
Allison, an incoming freshman, is camping with the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers selected him 52nd overall in the second round to become the second-highest draft selection in WMU history. Also attending a camp in the state of Pennsylvania is Tiffels. The junior forward is camping with the Pittsburgh Penguins, who selected him in the sixth round of the 2015 NHL Draft. Joining him is Goff, the junior defenseman.
Molino is actually attending two camps. The sophomore forward already attended camp with the New York Islanders and is now the only non-drafted free agent to be invited to camp with the Detroit Red Wings. Molino also attended camp with the Islanders during the previous off-season. McKee, a Detroit draft pick, is also attending camp up in Traverse City.
Two Broncos in Muir and Schueneman are out in Western Canada. Schueneman joined the Winnipeg Jets, while Muir is once again at the Edmonton Oilers camp. Iacopelli is once again attending Chicago Blackhawks camp and is a third round selection of the team from 2014.
