IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Western Michigan gymnastics team had multiple top-20 performances at the NCAA Regional in Iowa City on Saturday.
Jessie Peszek was the standout performer of the day for the Broncos, scoring a 9.825 on bars and a 9.775 on beam. She tied for 17th on bars and 26th on beam. The top performer for Western Michigan on beam was freshman Rachael Underwood, scoring a 9.800 to tie for 17th.
Jessi Buis had the top finish of the day of any Bronco, placing 16th on vault with a 9.750.
Audry Merritt, Kelsey Hood and Jessi Juncaj also competed for WMU, as the team totaled 86.750 points among the six competitors. It was the top total at the Regional for a team that was comprised of just individual performances. Other teams that sent individuals were Ball State and Centenary.
Junior Anna Corbett was unable to compete for the official all-around routine due to an injury at the MAC Championships. Hood who qualified in all-around was scratched following floor due to an injury as well.
Overall the Broncos had seven competitors qualify for the event, a new program record. This season the Broncos had three of the top six all-around team scores in program history.
