KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan head men's soccer coach Chad Wiseman has announced the program's 2016 spring schedule. Teams are allowed a set amount of training days in the shortened spring training season as well as competition against other universities.
The Broncos begin the spring schedule hosting the Seelye Invitational, a 9 v 9 indoor tournament on Feb. 20. In the three-team event, Western Michigan will be paired against DePaul and Davenport.
The Broncos will face Loyola-Chicago March 19, in Waldo Stadium at 3 p.m. WMU will then participate in the second annual Michigan Cup. The Broncos won the inaugural Michigan Cup in 2015 by defeating Oakland in the championship by a score of 3-1. WMU also defeated Detroit in 1-0 and in-state rival Michigan 2-0.
All five Division I men's soccer programs in Michigan, plus Division II Saginaw Valley State will come together to compete for the second annual Michigan Cup. The teams are split into two divisions. In one division Michigan State, Oakland and Saginaw Valley will face off and in the other divison Western Michigan, Detroit and Michigan will square off. The Broncos will play Michigan on Friday, March 25, at 8:20 p.m. and Oakland at 9:40 p.m. at the Oakland Sports Bubble in Rochester Hills, Mich. The finals will be held on April 9 at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac, Mich.
The Broncos will head to South Bend, Ind., on April 2, to face Notre Dame at 2 p.m. who finished 2015 ranked No. 11 in the nation and then at 3:45 p.m. will square off against Valparaiso.
