BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team extended its winning streak to five games after a 2-1 road win at Bowling Green on Sunday afternoon.
Emma Kahn netted two goals on the day and Stephanie Heber made three saves in the victory. Alex Ruffer, who netted the game-winning goal in Friday's 1-0 win at Eastern Michigan, set up both of Kahn's goals.
"We started the game off really well and got an early goal," said head coach Nate Norman. "I wa sa little disappointed how we played in the later parts of the first half, but I also think Bowling Green did a really nice job of making it difficult on us. I thought our secold half was very good and overall it was great we were able to get the win against a quality opponent."
Western Michigan took an early 1-0 lead on Kahn's first goal of the game in the 12th minute. Ruffer set up Kahn and she fired it from the left side of the box and into the net for her eighth goal of the season.
Bowling Green tied it up at 1-1 in the 32nd minute on Skylar Fleak's fourth goal of the season. Fleak got a pass from Kara Ross and shot the ball around a Bronco defender and past Heber.
The teams went into half squared at 1-1 but the Broncos pounced on the Falcons early in the second half to retake the lead. Kahn's game-winner came in the 56th minute when Ruffer crossed the ball through the box and Kahn settled it and shot it into the left-side of the net for her team-best ninth goal of the season.
WMU maintained its lead and allowed just one shot on goal in the second half. Overall the Broncos outshot the Falcons 33-13 and 11-4 on goal.
Western Michigan travels to Northern Illinois on Thursday for the final game of the regular season.
