SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Doubles duo Matt Hamilton/Maik Steiner of the Western Michigan men's tennis team earned two wins to advance to Round of Eight at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships at the University of Notre Dame.
In the main draw doubles, No. 23 seeded Hamilton/Steiner improved their perfect record to 9-0 this season with two wins on Saturday. Steiner/Hamilton first earned a win over Dykema/Stearms of Marquette by a score of 8-4 before topping Crocker/Cuba of Michigan 8-7 (9-7). They will face the winner of Mendez/Tubert of Ohio State at 11:30 a.m.
In the Main Draw Singles, Matej Svjetlicic fell to Ralf Steinbach of Ohio State to end his 13 match winning streak. Steiner earned a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Hunter Tubert of Ohio State before falling to Strong Kirchheimer of Northwestern in the round of 16.
