ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team finished up play at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships with an overall record of 12-10 as their stay at the University of Michigan was ended on Saturday.
“We finished a very strong tournament 12-10 overall for the weekend and anytime you leave this tournament with a winning record you've done a great job,” Head coach Ryan Tomlinson said. “We'll get back to work this next week and look to finish on a strong note in our last tournament of the fall. I was proud of the girls and how they competed this weekend.”
After winning three straight matches to earn a spot in the main draw, junior Tracy Kuhle and freshman Melina Lyubomirova each fell in hard fought matches in the first round. Junior Barbare Eristavi, who was awarded a spot in the main draw to begin the tournament, fell in the first round as well. Kuhle fell 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 to Zaina Sufi of DePaul, Lyubomirova fell 7-5, 7-5 to Mira Ruder-Hook of Michigan and Eristavi dropped her match to Marina Cozac of DePaul 7-5, 7-5.
