ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team will be sending Tracy Kuhle and Melina Lyubomirova to the main draw to join Barbare Eristavi. Overall, the Broncos went 2-1 in singles and 3-3 in doubles play on the second day of the ITA Midwest Regional Championship.
"Adding two more players to the main draw speaks volumes about our play," Head coach Ryan Tomlinson said. "We played great tennis at crucial times today and we're looking forward to even better tennis tomorrow."
Lyubomirova, the freshman, earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Niki Flower of Ohio State to advance to the main draw where she faces Mira Ruder-Hook of Michigan at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. Kuhle, the junior, earned a 6-7 (7-5) 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) over Labina Petrovka of UW-Milwaukee to advance to main draw where she faces Zaina Sufi of DePaul at 11 a.m. Eristavi faces Marina Cozac of DePaul at 11 a.m. Freshman Katja Fevralev fell to Sophia Geier of Akron for her first loss of her Bronco career as her record moved to 8-1.
The doubles teams of Fevralev/Denise Azcui, Lyubomirova/Kuhle and Eristavi/Ella Perinovic each earned wins in their first round of the main draw, but all three dropped their second and were eliminated from the draw.
