VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team finished up play at the Valparaiso Crusader Invite with a 4-4 record in singles play at a 2-0 record in doubles play. The Broncos pushed their three-day total to 13-7 in singles and 7-1 in doubles as freshman Matej Svjetlicic went 2-0 on the day to improve his season record to 11-1 in singles.
Svjetlicic topped Michael Savaglio of Valpo 6-2, 6-4 and beat Pablo Landa 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 to go 4-0 on the weekend. Junior Matt Hamilton and sophomore Maik Steiner earned wins in singles play also. Freshman Eric Olivarez suffered his first loss of the season and first as a member of the Broncos.
In double, the team of Steiner/Hamilton beat the duo of Morth/Kritzinger of Youngstown State 6-2 to claim the Flight A doubles championship while going 4-0 on the weekend. The duo of Jimmy Beckwith/Svjetlicic earned a win to go 3-1 at the invite.
