VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team opened up day one at the Valparaiso Crusader Invite 7-1 including a perfect 6-0 record in singles play. The Broncos sent six individuals to the 12 team invite that runs through Sunday.
In singles play, freshman Eric Olivarez improved his perfect record this season to 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Ross Smith of Western Illinois University while freshman Matej Svjetlicic improved to 8-1 and Matt Hamilton moved to 6-1. Freshman Nick Schnobel, sophomore Maik Steiner and senior Jimmy Beckwith all earned a win in singles as Schnobel moved to 3-1, Steiner to 3-3 and Beckwith earned his first win of the young season.
In double play, the duo of Hamilton/Steiner defeated East/De Costa 6-4 to keep their record together perfect and improve to 4-0.
