KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team finished day two with a 7-6 overall record as it went 4-3 in singles play at 3-3 in doubles play at the Bronco Invite. WMU's two-day total now moved to 18-8 with one more round of singles play left to play on Sunday, Oct. 10 starting at 10 a.m. at the Sorensen Courts.
Freshman Katja Fevralev has now opened up her career 5-0 for the Broncos after another win today over DePaul's Jarret Fisher by a score of 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the Larissa Mavros Flight. In the Heidi Vizgaitis Flight, both freshman Denise Azcui and junior Tracy Kuhle each earned a win to go 2-0 so far this weekend. Ella Perinovic earned a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win over Cloern of Wright State in the Sue Weigand Flight to move to 2-0 this weekend.
“I think we had a decent day but there were spots we could've been better,” Head coach Ryan Tomlinson said. “I thought Ella (Perinovic) did a great job today, she had some things that has been working on in practice and it really came through for her today.”
In the Betsy Kuhle Doubles Flight, the duos of Kuhle/Olivia Myers, Azcui/Fevralev and Melina Lyubomirova/Barbare Eristavi all split a pair of matches. Kuhle/Myers and Eristavi/Lyubomirova finished out the weekend with 3-1 records in doubles.
The Broncos finish the Bronco Invite with one more round of singles play starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11 at Sorenson Courts.
