KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team opened up day one of the Bronco Invitational with huge success going 6-1 in singles play at 5-1 in doubles play. WMU is one of eight teams competing in the three day tournament including Chicago State, DePaul, IUPUI, Lewis University, Oakland, Valparaiso and Wright State.
"We had a good day today going 11-2 overall," Head coach Ryan Tomlinson said. "We got better at the things from our last tournament but we are still needing to work in areas but very pleased with our progress thus far."
In singles play, Olivia Myers earned a win in the Amy Yeast Flight and Barbare Eristavi and Katja Fevralev earned wins in the Larissa Mavros Flight. Fevralev, a freshman, has opened the season up with a perfect 4-0 record. In the Heidi Vizgaitis Flight, Denise Azcui and Tracy Kuhle each earned a win while Ella Perinovic won in the Sue Wergand Flight.
In doubles play, the duos of Kuhle/Myers and Eristavi/Melina Lyubomirova each went 2-0 on the day while Fevralev/Azcui went 1-1.
The Broncos pick up play Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. with two rounds of singles and two rounds of doubles.
