KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan men's soccer team earned a No. 24 ranking in this week's
national poll by TopDrawerSoccer, breaking through the top 25 for the first time in school history.
The Broncos have opened the season with a 5-0-0 record, posting five straight shutouts. Western Michigan is one of only of only three Division I programs that have not allowed a goal this year, joining Notre Dame and Washington. WMU and the two others are the national leaders for goals-against average, save percentage, shutout percentage and win-loss percentage.
WMU has outscored its opponents 13-0 and has taken 47 corner kicks while only allowing seven against. Statistically, Western Michigan leads the nation in assists per game (3.80 apg), ranks third in points per game (9.0 ppg) and eighth in scoring offense, averaging 2.60 goals per game. WMU's 19 total assists are the fourth most in the nation.
The Broncos scored eight goals in an 8-0 victory over St. Bonaventure this past Friday. The eight goals are the most scored by a single team this year and ranked as the most ever in WMU history against a fellow Division I opponent.
