CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced its slate of games for the 2015-16 men's basketball season today, with the Western Michigan Broncos opening the 18-game conference schedule at home against Kent State on Tuesday, Jan. 5. WMU will play two games each against all of their MAC West rivals as well as Kent State and Bowling Green, and will face all other MAC East foes once.
The Broncos open the 2016 conference schedule with the Golden Flashes, who they beat 67-66 at University Arena last season on a shot by Connar Tava with nine seconds remaining. For the second straight year WMU's first road game will be at Akron, when the Broncos take on the Zips on Friday, Jan. 8 at James A. Rhodes Arena. Back-to-back home games with Ball State (Jan. 12) and Northern Illinois (Jan. 16) give way to the longest road trip of year when the Broncos take on the Ohio Bobcats in Athens (Jan. 19), but that is followed by three straight at home against Buffalo (Jan. 23), Bowling Green (Jan. 26) and Eastern Michigan (Jan. 30).
The team will spend much of the month of February on the bus and in hotels, with six of the eight scheduled games coming on the road. Things begin with road trips to Toledo (Feb. 2) and Ball State (Feb. 6), leading to a brief respite with a home game against Miami (Feb. 9). That is followed by another extended road swing in the state of Ohio that includes meetings with Bowling Green (Feb. 13) and Kent State (Feb. 16). The Broncos return home to host arch nemesis Central Michigan on Saturday, Feb. 20 before closing out the month with games at Eastern Michigan (Feb. 23) and Northern Illinois (Feb. 27).
Starting with the game against the Chippewas, the Broncos play five straight games against MAC West opponents to close the season. The final scheduled home game of the season comes on Tuesday, March 1 when Toledo comes to University Arena, and the Broncos wrap the conference schedule in Mount Pleasant against Central Michigan on Friday, March 4.
