KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's cross country team announced its 2015 schedule which features several prestigious meets in the Midwest region. Kelly Lycan is entering his 15th year as head coach for the Brown and Gold.
The Broncos open the season on Sept. 5 at the Eastern Michigan Invitational, a change of pace after starting the season with the Crusader Open at Valparaiso for more than 10 years. On Sept. 11th, the Broncos host the George Dales Invitational at the Pine View Golf Club. George Dales coached WMU to back-to-back national championships in 1964 and 1965 and is widely known for his wide range of roles in cross country and track & field.
Following their lone home meet, the Broncos travel to the Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 2 and the Michigan Intercollegiates on Oct. 9 to battle teams such as Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Oakland, among others. The Broncos then travel to the Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 17. The Pre-National Invitational is one of the largest meets in the nation and is being hosted at the same course as the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Kent.
After a week off, WMU heads to the MAC Championships on Oct. 31and then will face one of the toughest meets of the season in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on Nov. 13.
“We like to get our team exposed to a good level of competition throughout the year,” Lycan said. “We're trying to climb to the top-10 in the region.”
