KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan head men's soccer coach
Chad Wiseman has announced seniors
Connor Furgason,
Chase Rau and
Nick Wysong as tri-captains for the 2015 season.
Furgason has been a starting center back for the Broncos the past two seasons. Last year he was a First Team All-Mid-American Conference selection after tying for a team-best four goals and leading the WMU defense to five shutouts. He also contributed two assists. In 2013, he notched four goals, one assist and was a MAC All-Tournament Team selection.
Rau has been WMU's starting goalkeeper since transferring from Wisconsin after his freshman season. Despite battling injury last season, Rau was the goalie of record for six of WMU's eight wins during and posted three shutouts. In his first season at WMU he did not allow a goal through the first four conference games and allowed only three goals during MAC play to lead the conference in goals-against average (0.49) and save percentage (.880).
Wysong will be entering his second season at Western Michigan after transferring from Pitt. Wysong had an immediate impact in the Bronco midfield last season and was named the team's Newcomer of the Year. He was a First Team All-MAC selection and ranked in the top 10 in the conference in goals (4), points (12) and shots (41).
Western Michigan has two exhibition games leading up to the 2015 season and officially kicks off its schedule Friday, Aug. 28 at home against Marshall. The Broncos posted a 8-7-4 (2-2-1 MAC) record last year and upset No. 19 ranked Akron on the road.
