KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan hockey team held its annual year-end banquet to celebrate the 2014-15 season on Saturday night.
Sophomore captain Sheldon Dries was named the Rob Hodge Most Valuable Player Award, as voted on by the team. Dries also earned the Vic Vanderberg Top Scorer award after leading the Broncos in scoring with 29 points.
Sophomore Taylor Fleming was named the Neil Smith Most Valuable Defenseman Award winner, while fellow defensemen Neal Goff and Scott Moldenhauer shared the Ed Edwards Most Improved Player Award. Forward Frederik Tiffels was voted the Suzanne Klop Rookie of the Year after finishing the season with 21 points on 11 goals and 10 assists.
Will Kessel and Matt Stewart shared the KOHA Grinder Award, while Lukas Hafner was named the Blue Line Club Best Conditioned Athlete. Aaron Hadley earned the Peter Ellis Academic Award after a stellar season in the classroom. Colton Hargrove, who recently signed with the Boston Bruins, was awarded the Bill Saunders Plus/Minus award after finishing the season with a team-best +12.
