Women's Tennis Perfect in Sunday Twinbill

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team had a perfect day on the courts on Sunday, sweeping the Ferris State Bulldogs and Hillsdale Chargers by identical 7-0 scores in a doubleheader sweep at West Hills Athletic Club. The Broncos improve to 6-5 on the season with the pair of wins.

Five Broncos went a perfect 2-0 in singles on Sunday while the doubles pairing of Barbare Eristavi and Yuriko Ono won a pair of matches in doubles play. WMU did not drop a single match on the afternoon and in fact did not lose a single set at all in singles play. The sweep against Ferris State represents the first 7-0 shutout for the Broncos since their second match of the season, a 7-0 decision over Valparaiso on Jan. 17.

The day started with the win over the Bulldogs, and the Broncos opened the proceedings with a dominant effort in doubles play. Tracy Kuhle and Olivia Myers fired things up with a 6-0 shutout of Janie Sell and Sydney Berens in the No. 3 doubles match, and the duo of Eristavi and Ono earned their first win of the day with a 6-2 decision over Matilda Ackered and Arien Kissinger. The Broncos' nationally-ranked doubles pairing of Caroline Aleck and Meika Ashby finished the doubles session up by defeating the Bulldogs' top doubles team of Noelly Longi Nsimba and Olga Martinsone, winning 6-3 as the Broncos took a 1-0 lead in the team match.

Ono started off singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jessica Wilcox at No. 6 singles, and Ella Perinovic made it a 3-0 advantage with a win over Sell at the No. 5 spot. Eristavi clinched the team match with a win over Kissinger, going 6-2, 6-2 to give WMU the decisive fourth point in the match. Myers earned a straight-sets win over Ackered in the No. 2 singles match, Kuhle picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Martinsone, and Ashby survived a close second set with Nsimba for a 6-3, 7-5 win at the No. 1 singles position and the 7-0 finish over Ferris State.

After a brief respite the Broncos returned to action, taking on the Chargers and producing an identical 7-0 result. Perinovic and Kuhle joined forces in doubles and claimed the first win of the nightcap, beating Amberley Bailey and Rachel Blaauw by a 6-0 score. Myers and Aleck won by the same score at the No. 1 doubles position, beating Lindsay Peirce and Sydney Delp 6-0 to clinch the doubles session. Eristavi and Ono closed out the doubles session with their second win together, beating Dana Grace Buck and Morgan Delp 6-2 as WMU swept the doubles session and earned the point.

Kuhle gave the Broncos a 2-0 advantage in the team match with a straight-sets win over Morgan Delp, and Perinovic added a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jada Bissett in the No. 5 singles match to make it a 3-0 score. Labina Petrovska clinched the team win with a victory over Blaauw at the No. 6 spot, winning 6-3, 6-1 to secure the second win of the day. Ono cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Buck in the No. 4 spot, Olivia Myers picked up her first career win at No. 1 singles by beating Sydney Delp 6-2, 6-2, and Eristavi rounded out the match with a straight-sets win over Peirce.
