KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team continued its current roll with doubleheader sweep on Friday, defeating the Cleveland State Vikings 4-3 in the early match and sweeping the Wayne State Warriors 7-0 at West Hills Athletic Club. With the wins, the Broncos improve to 7-3 overall and have won five straight dual matches.

Matt Hamilton went 2-0 in singles play on the afternoon and also went undefeated in doubles action, teaming with Stephen Payne to win at both Nos. 2 and 3 doubles in both respective matches. The sophomore clinched the team win for the Broncos against the Vikings in the first match of the day and contributed to the shutout in the second match of the day against the Warriors.

The doubles pairing of Jimmy Beckwith and Jefta Kecic started things off in the match against the Vikings, holding off Jorg Van Der Vloet and Colton Buffington for a 6-3 win to open the session. Payne and Hamilton clinched the session for the Broncos with a 6-2 win over Mirko Radosevic and Manuell Bellutti in the No. 2 doubles match, giving WMU a 1-0 advantage in the overall match.

The Vikings tied the overall match with a win at No. 3 singles, but Maik Steiner put the Broncos back ahead 2-1 when he cruised past Joe VanMeter 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match. Kecic made it a 3-1 advantage with a straight-sets win over Ali Shabib at No. 2, but the Vikings claimed the next two matches on the board to tie the match at 3-3. Hamilton clinched the team win for the Broncos with a three-setter against Bellutti at the No. 4 spot, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 to take the overall match and open the day with a win.

It was much smoother sailing for WMU in the nightcap against Wayne State as the Broncos took eight of the nine matches on the court, winning 7-0 by sweeping the singles session and taking two of three doubles matches. Steiner and Ruben Greiner blew past Luke Ruocco and Trey Keating 6-2 in the No. 1 doubles match to give the Broncos the lead in the session, and Payne and Hamilton clinched the extra point with a 6-2 win over Harvey Reed and Clement Charriere in the No. 3 doubles match.

Payne defeated Ryan Carlson 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles match to give the Broncos a 2-0 advantage in the team match, and Greiner put WMU in a position to win the team match with a straight sets victory in the No. 1 singles match. Hamilton again clinched the team match with a singles win, this time beating Charriere 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 3 singles spot to make it a 4-0 win. Pablo Mora won a straight-sets match against Keating to make it 5-0, and Marc Shideler and Andrew Cahn each won in third-set tiebreakers to seal the 7-0 shutout win.
