Women's Tennis Successful on Second Day of Hoosier Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team enjoyed another successful day at the Hoosier Classic hosted by Indiana, with four players advancing to the singles of their respective back draws and three different doubles teams achieving victory. The Broncos will conclude their stay at the tournament on Sunday.

WMU went 4-2 in singles action on Saturday as four different players advanced to the final rounds of back draws in solo action. In fact, Tracy Kuhle and Caroline Aleck moved on to the final round of the same back draw, as both picked up wins in the Indiana draw. Aleck topped Middle Tennessee State's Sarah Sediri in a first-set tiebreaker by a 7-5 score and ultimately took her set 7-6 (5), 7-5, and Kuhle authored a near mirror-image in her win over Morehead State's Dominique-Chante Mclean, winning 7-5, 7-6 (5). The two Broncos are currently slated to face one another in singles on Sunday morning.

Sophomore Barbare Eristavi is scheduled to play in the top back draw of the weekend, and will play Cincinnati's Kelly Poggensee-Wei on Sunday; Eristavi advanced to the finals thanks to an opponent's default but also won a singles match on Saturday. She defeated Cincinnati's Samantha Perry in an unbracketed extra match, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.

Wrapping up the successful singles Saturday was freshman Labina Petrovska, who cruised past the Eagles' Aleksandra for the honor of playing in the Hoosier Back Draw. Petrovska made quick work of her opponent from Morehead State, winning 6-2, 6-0. She will face Perry in the back draw final on Sunday.

Doubles play also proved to be kind to the Broncos, starting with a consolation win for the doubles pairing of Petrovska and Yuriko Ono. They overcame a tough challenge from the Blue Raiders' Sarah Sediri and Alexandra Torres, taking a tiebreaker at the end of a 7-7 game to win 8-7 (7). Ono also teamed with Eristavi for a doubles win, beating Morehead State's Mclean and Ayaka Terashi by an 8-4 score. Kuhle and Ella Perinovic wrapped the extra doubles matches with an identical score over Sediri and Torres, winning 8-4.
