KALAMAZOO, Mich. – It was a perfect day for the Western Michigan women's tennis team on Saturday, as the Broncos swept three doubles matches and seven singles matches on the second day of the Bronco Invitational. All matches on the day took place at West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo.
The day began with the Broncos' final doubles session of the weekend, as WMU took on Chicago State in the early morning doubles session. Meika Ashby and Olivia Myers notched their third doubles win of the weekend in the match, taking down the Cougars' top doubles team of Hanna Pangestu and Marnie Ochoa-Perez by a 6-2 score. Yuriko Ono and Barbare Eristavi also picked up their third win as a team on the weekend, beating Leshia Gadacz and Faith Huckabee by an identical 6-2 score. Wrapping up the doubles session was Tracy Kuhle and Caroline Aleck, who cruised past a combined team of Chicago State's Lorea Gamboa and IUPUI's Marina Schneiger 6-2.
Ashby earned her third top singles win of the weekend in the Broncos' afternoon session against the Jaguars, defeating Valeriia Lavrenchuk 6-1, 6-1. Myers locked her third straight win with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Bobbi Modesto, and freshman classmates Ella Perinovic and Labina Petrovska also turned out victories with wins over Rachael Bridegroom and Marina Schneiger in straight sets, respectively.
Eristavi won a relatively close match with the Jaguars' Rachel Swartwood, surviving a 6-4 first set to win the second handily at 6-2 to close the match, and fellow sophomore Tracy Kuhle logged a 6-0, 6-1 win over Samantha Mayer to close out her weekend. Aleck, the Broncos' lone senior, wrapped up the success for the Broncos' with a 6-2, 6-0 won over Abbey Neff.
