CHICAGO -- Freshman forward
Emma Kahn came off the bench and netted the game-winning goal with just four minutes left as the Western Michigan women's soccer team improved to a program-best 4-0-0 after defeating Loyola Chicago, 1-0, on Friday evening.
Late in the 85th minute sophomore
Olivia Vollmers crossed the ball into the box. It went through a crowd of players to Kahn, who took a preparation touch and then fired it into the net from six yards out. The goal was her third of the season, her second game-winner and also third goal off the bench. Vollmers tallied her second assist of the season on the goal.
“Loyola is a very good team and they presented a different challenge today than we have had so far this season,” said head coach
Nate Norman. “They are very athletic and play very hard. I thought we handled their pressure pretty well throughout the game.”
“We created some good chances during the game but they were difficult to break down in the back. Emma scored another great goal for the game-winner after a great cross from Olivia.”
The Broncos outshot the Ramblers 13-4 overall and 5-3 in shots on goal. Redshirt freshman
Stephanie Heber made three saves to earn her second win and second shutout of the season. Overall this season WMU has not allowed a goal in 378:03 of soccer.
Western Michigan has another touch match ahead as the team travels to East Lansing, Mich., to battle Michigan State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
