Western Michigan Baseball Summer Ball Update

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Success from the 2014 collegiate season has transferred over to summer ball for several members of the Western Michigan baseball team.

Kurt Hoekstra has been on fire for the first 10 games for the Chillicothe Paints hitting a team-best .324 with no errors in the field. Hoekstra also has thrown four scoreless innings, giving up only one hit. Keegan Akin has thrown 9.2 scoreless innings for the Paints over his first two starts, recording 10 punch outs and only five hits against.

Jared Kujawa leads the Kalamazoo Growlers in hits (16), stolen bases (2) and at bats (51), starting all 13 games. He batting .314 and has four doubles. Catcher Brett Sunde has caught the majority of the games thus far for the Growlers and is hitting a respectable .286 with four RBIs.

Nate Schneider has had a hot bat for NW Indiana, where he has the second highest batting average in the Midwest Collegiate League, hitting .438 with four doubles and four RBIs. Nick Vogelmeier has started every game for the Oilmen, and the team sits in third place in the league.

Gabe Berman (Cotuit Kettlers - Cape Cod League) and Jordan Tillman (Iggi's - Arizona Collegiate Wood Bat League) look to start their season soon.  

Finally, Drew Farmer has been in the Dominican Republic for a week now.  Between serving the community, playing games and watching professional Dominican baseball, Drew has been very busy.  However, he has kept up to date with his blogging very well full of daily updates and great pictures.  You can follow Drew at http://beyondbeisbol.blogspot.com.
