ATHENS, Ga. -- The Western Michigan women's track and field team wrapped up competition at the Spec Towns Invitational and Bulldog Heptathlon on Saturday evening at the University of Georgia.

WMU claimed a win in the 100-meter hurdles and turned in several solid performances. Chiara Allen, who won the triple jump on Friday, took first place in the short hurdles with a time of 14.61 seconds. Sophomore Artia Gunn took fourth overall, while junior Alexis Hull and freshman Keyera Lige both finished in the top eight. Hull also turned in a personal-best time of 1:01.75 to take second place in the 400-meter hurdles.

"I was really pleased with the way our youngsters got things going," said head coach Kelly Lycan. "The indoor season can be culture shock for some of them and I think they are a little more at home during the outdoor season. It was very promising."

One of the youngsters was freshman Sarita Dotson. Dotson shaved time off of her season-best in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.18 seconds. She also nearly broke 25 seconds in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.01. Fellow freshman Naiomi Dulaney finished just behind her with a time of 25.09.

"Sarita really keeps improving," Lycan added. "Any time you can get down to 12 seconds or under you will give yourself a chance at making the finals at the MAC Championships."

Senior Andrea Arnold ran the third-best time of her career in the 400-meter dash at 54.55 seconds to take fifth overall. Fellow senior Aisha Hodge took second overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.94.

Both Amy Littlefield and Becca Peacock broke 12 minutes in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with Peacock finishing in third with a time of 11:49.79. Littlefield, a freshman, turned in a time of 11:56.22 in her first steeplechase.

Senior Andrea Hiler, who claimed first in the shot put on Friday, took sixth overall in the discus with a distance of 47.29m (155-02). Junior Kathryn Pickett finished off the heptathlon with 4,901 points to claim eighth overall.

Western Michigan heads to the Jesse Owens Invitational at Ohio State University next Friday and Saturday.
