MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Western Michigan track and field team made with 10-straight after winning the Ball State Quad Meet for the 10th time in a row at Ball State University on Friday night.
The Broncos racked up seven event titles and 165 total points to best second-place Ball State (120.50), Northern Illinois (115.50) and Miami (47).
"We had some good performances today and that's what you're looking for at a meet like this," said head coach
Kelly Lycan." We're trying to get some momentum going into the MAC Championship and I think we did that."
Western Michigan swept the throwing events, taking first in both the shot put and the weight throw.
Andrea Hiler took first in the shot put with a distance of 15.22m (49-11.25) and had three throws over 15 meters. Hiler also scored in the weight throw, taking third place at 17.76m (58-3.25). Fellow senior
Stephanie Negrete claimed the weight throw title after throwing 18.02m (59-1.50).
"Stephanie is knocking on that big 60 foot door and it's a really good position when that going into a big meet because it keeps you hungry," Lycan added. "Andrea is in the same boat. She had four throws over 15 meters in the shot and that's some high-level consistency."
