MINNEAPOLIS -- Aisha Hodge and Stephanie Negrete turned in personal-best performances as Western Michigan wrapped up the Jack Johnson Classic at the University of Minnesota, taking fifth place on Saturday evening.

Negrete nearly broke the 60-foot mark in the weight throw after tossing a distance of 18.28m (59-11.75) to take second place.

"Sixty feet is one of those big barriers in our sport," said head coach Kelly Lycan. "Stephanie has just been doing a good job over the past three years getting better and better. That's a really big improvement for her."

Fellow senior thrower Andrea Hiler also turned in a solid performance after taking second in the shot put with a distance of 14.93m (48-11.75). Four of Hiler's six throws all eclipsed 14 meters, with the best distance coming on her last throw.

Senior Aisha Hodge turned in a big personal-best in the mile run at 4:55.78. It was the first time in her career she had broke the five-minute mark in the event. The Bangor, Mich., native took fifth overall but was the fourth collegiate scorer in the event. She also took second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:12.88.

Chiara Allen has her best time of the season in the 60 meter hurdles after running a time of 8.88 seconds. Alexis Hull also ran a quality race to take sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.22. The junior sprinter also finished first place in her heat.

Western Michigan heads to Ypsilanti, Mich., and Eastern Michigan University to battle in-state rivals at the Compass Classic on Saturday.
