CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced its Academic All-MAC honorees for the 2012-13 women's tennis season, with Western Michigan's Nini Sujashvili earning the honor for the second straight season. Sujashvili also earned Second-Team All-MAC honors in 2013, the second time in her career she has been named All-MAC. Sujashvili was a two-time winner of the MAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week award in 2013, and earned the MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week award early in the year as well.
In addition to Sujashvili, three other Broncos - Caroline Aleck, Jill Pastunink, and Maggie Remynse - were named Academic All-MAC honorable mentions.
Sujashvili, who maintains a 3.96 GPA while majoring in Psychology, maintained her normal spot atop the singles line-up for the Broncos, posting a 12-13 record while playing against No. 1 competition in every match. Among the junior's more impressive wins this season is the one she recorded on March 2 against Purdue; Sujashvili defeated the Boilermakers' Lynda Xepoleas 6-4, 6-4, at a time when Purdue was ranked as the #14 team in the nation.
Sujashvili was even better in doubles play this year, notching an 18-18 overall doubles record, including a 16-9 dual match record and a 7-1 record in MAC play. Teaming primarily with Remynse, Sujashvili went 8-1 against conference opponents at No. 2 doubles, going 11-5 as a team and winning eight of their last 11 matches together.
