WMU Golf Heads to MAC Championships

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The 2012-13 Western Michigan women's golf season culminates this weekend at the Mid-American Conference Championships at the Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.

The Event - The 2013 MAC Championships are being held at the Longaberger Golf Course in Nashport, Ohio and Ohio is serving as this year's host.  This is the 15th playing the conference championship event.

The Field - The field consists of Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan.

The Course - Longaberger Golf Club will play host to the event.  The course will play to a length of 6,075 yards and a par of 72.

Format - Five golfers compete with the best four scores comprising the team score for each round.  Each round will start with tee times, beginning at 7:50 a.m. Western Michigan will tee off from 8:40 a.m. through 9:20 a.m.

WMU Line Up - (1) Kaylee Imel (9:20 a.m.), (2) Melissa Beurmann (9:10 a.m.), (3) Heather Marks (9:00 a.m.), (4) Laura Moutrey (8:50 a.m.), (5) Kelsey Carney (8:40 a.m.).

Last Year - Kent State captured its 14th-straight MAC Women's Golf Championship in 2012 as the Golden Flashes are the only program to ever win the event.  KSU bested Ball State by 16 strokes a year ago.

WMU's History at MAC Championships - Western Michigan finished sixth out of nine teams in 2012 with then-freshman Laura Moutrey was the Broncos' low scorer, tying for 14th place.  WMU's best finish came in 2004 when the Broncos finished second and head coach Cindy Trout was named MAC Coach of the Year.

WMU Golf in 2012-13 - The Broncos have finished in the top 10 in five of six tournaments this season with over 10 teams.  WMU is looking for its first team tournament win since the 2011 Falcon Classic.  A tournament win would also mean its first MAC Championship in program history.
