MUNCIE, Ind. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team fell in a tight battle on the road to a Mid-American Conference rival on Saturday, losing 4-3 to the Ball State Cardinals 4-3 at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.  With the loss, the Broncos fall to 16-9 overall, 2-2 in MAC play.

The Broncos and Cardinals split the singles session at three wins apiece, but it was the doubles point that clinched it for Ball State.  Nadin Indre improved to 4-0 in conference play and 18-4 in dual match singles with a win at No. 1 singles, beating the Cardinals' Ray Leonard 6-3, 6-3.  The reigning MAC Player of the Year, Indre is now 14-4 in No. 1 singles matches this year.

The other Bronco victories would be of the three-set variety, with Ross VanderPloeg and Ruben Greiner picking up victories in the Nos. 2 and 3 singles matches, respectively.  VanderPloeg survived a second-set loss to Dalton Albertin in the No. 2 singles match, posting a convincing third-set victory in winning 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.  In the No. 3 singles match, Ruben Greiner came back from a tiebreaker loss in the first set to cruise in the final two, beating Imanol Arconada 6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-1 to wrap the scoring for the Broncos.

Indre and Greiner were close to picking up a doubles win for the Broncos during the opening session, keeping tight with Leonard and Patrick Elliott in the No. 1 doubles match.  The teams were tied a 7-7 when the doubles point was clinched by the Cardinals, and the rest of the match was abandoned.
